âNo problem,â Morgan said as he returned to his usual spot behind the bar, and Jesse headed for the door. âSee you later.â
Jesse pushed the door open, letting a ray of light in before it closed again.
âWho was that?â Miranda asked.
âOne of the richest men in town,â Morgan supplied. âAnd if I were you, Iâd stay on his good side. Heâs a good man, but he only puts up with so much. After that, he can become a personâs worst enemy.â
âI see,â Miranda said as she stared towards the door. âIs there anything else you can tell me?â
âNot that I can think of offhand. But if you end up with any questions, stop by. If youâll give me a telephone number, so I can reach you, Iâll let you know if I hear anything,â he offered.
âThat would be great,â she said. âDo you have a pen?â
Morgan turned and retrieved one from beside the register. He handed it to her and she grabbed a paper bar napkin. Quickly, she jotted down her name and number. âYou can call or text. Even if it seems like something small, donât hesitate to contact me,â she insisted.
âWill do,â he said with a nod. âWhat are you going to do if you find her?â
âIâll make whoever did this, suffer,â she said simply.
âThatâs not what I mean,â he said shaking his head. âYou going to stick around Little Feather?â
âHonestly, I havenât even thought that far ahead,â she admitted. âI kind of figured Iâd probably head back home.â Although she had to admit that even Vegas didnât truly feel like home. It never had. Too many people coming and going for it to be something that felt safe and secure.
âYou might consider it,â he said. âIt seems as though youâre as tough a cookie as your mama. Maybe you could give her a hand around here.â
âWeâll see,â she said as she stood up from her seat at the bar. âThanks again,â she said.
âAnytime,â Morgan said with a brilliant white smile. âDonât be a stranger now,â he called out as she headed for the door.
