“No problem,” Morgan said as he returned to his usual spot behind the bar, and Jesse headed for the door. “See you later.”

Jesse pushed the door open, letting a ray of light in before it closed again.

“Who was that?” Miranda asked.

“One of the richest men in town,” Morgan supplied. “And if I were you, I’d stay on his good side. He’s a good man, but he only puts up with so much. After that, he can become a person’s worst enemy.”

“I see,” Miranda said as she stared towards the door. “Is there anything else you can tell me?”

“Not that I can think of offhand. But if you end up with any questions, stop by. If you’ll give me a telephone number, so I can reach you, I’ll let you know if I hear anything,” he offered.

“That would be great,” she said. “Do you have a pen?”

Morgan turned and retrieved one from beside the register. He handed it to her and she grabbed a paper bar napkin. Quickly, she jotted down her name and number. “You can call or text. Even if it seems like something small, don’t hesitate to contact me,” she insisted.

“Will do,” he said with a nod. “What are you going to do if you find her?”

“I’ll make whoever did this, suffer,” she said simply.

“That’s not what I mean,” he said shaking his head. “You going to stick around Little Feather?”

“Honestly, I haven’t even thought that far ahead,” she admitted. “I kind of figured I’d probably head back home.” Although she had to admit that even Vegas didn’t truly feel like home. It never had. Too many people coming and going for it to be something that felt safe and secure.

“You might consider it,” he said. “It seems as though you’re as tough a cookie as your mama. Maybe you could give her a hand around here.”

“We’ll see,” she said as she stood up from her seat at the bar. “Thanks again,” she said.

“Anytime,” Morgan said with a brilliant white smile. “Don’t be a stranger now,” he called out as she headed for the door.
